Parks for Kids NYC

Making our NYC parks pesticide-free for kids and everyone else.

Call NYC Council Member Cory Johnson
and ask him to bring Intro 1524 to a vote!

Parks should be for playing, not pesticides.

Our kids are exposed to lots of chemicals in their daily lives. Some we can avoid, some we can't.

When we take our kids to the park, we hope and expect they will get away from some of those toxins for a while.

So imagine our surprise to find out that the NYC Parks Department routinely uses chemical pesticides to control weeds and pests in the parks where our kids play. Some of these pesticides are linked to cancer, neurological problems and birth defects. There are better and safer ways to care for our parks!

We are Parks for Kids NYC, and we aim to change that. Will you help?
Other cities have done it. New York can do it too.
We have the votes. All we need is for the Speaker to bring it up for a vote in the City Council and finally ban the use of toxic chemical pesticides, including Monsanto's glyphosate ("RoundUp").

How do we get rid of pesticides in NYC parks?

Call Cory Johnson's office and ask him to bring the legislation up for a vote! Call (212) 564-7757.

Legislation to ban toxic pesticides in parks was introduced in the last session of the City Council by councilman Ben Kallos, at the urging of the kindergarten class at PS 290 - Manhattan New School on the Upper East Side, whose teacher, Paula Rogovin, had helped them learn about pesticides and their impact on people.

We are grateful to Paula and her students for their determination to make NYC parks a safe place for everyone!
